Job Title - Food Bank Volunteer
Work Location - One of our Safe Parking sites located at 2000 Geng Road, Palo Alto CA 94303
Purpose of the Position
MMV has partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley to bring food to those living in their vehicles and enrolled in our programs. We need dedicated volunteers to help run the food bank and ensure each client is able to get their nutritional needs met.
Responsibilities and Duties
The food bank will be open on every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Volunteers will be responsible for different tasks depending on shifts:
10a-12p:
- Stocking the shelves with new food items
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the food bank
- Putting labels on food
- Preparing food pantry for clients to enter (set up sign in table, organize boxes/bags, etc)
2p-4p
- Ensuring clients check in before receiving any food
- Treating all clients with dignity and respect
- Helping new clients find the location of the food bank
- Helping clients carry food to their vehicles, if needed
Qualifications
Must be comfortable working with people with different backgrounds. We are looking for compassionate individuals who want to make a difference in the community and the lives of houseless individuals. Bilingual in Spanish is a bonus, but not required.
Commitment Expected
We are welcoming 1-2 volunteers per shift. One shift will be to unload and organize the food items we have acquired for the distribution. Another shift will be for direct contact with clients, ensuring they are checking in and sticking to the food limits (if applicable).
Training
There will be a volunteer orientation. A staff member will be there to show you how to attend to the food bank. There will also be paperwork required to complete before your first shift (MMV & SHFB regulations).
