Shoe Kits for Africa in Los Altos

Expired

Description

If you are like most Americans, you have a nice home, two cars, and a closet full of shoes. However, there are children who begin their day with barely enough to wear, no clean water, and NO SHOES. For lack of adequate footwear, thousands of children in Uganda suffer from a crippling foot parasite called jiggers.

Now you have a chance to save a life.  You will recycle old blue jeans and plastic jugs into the materials needed to construct simple shoes. The shoe uppers that we produce will be shipped to Africa where they will be sewn and attached to outer soles made from recycled tires. Local tailors and shoemakers create the finished shoes which are distributed through medical clinics.

You will cut the denim and prepare the shoe kits with a project leader guiding you through the project.

Location: Los Altos UMC, 655 Magdalena Ave, Los Altos

You Need: A sharp pair of scissors.  We will provide the denim and other supplies needed.
